Patient Education

American College of Endocrinology EmPower® Program - Empowering Patients to take control of their endocrine health. The EmPower® program is a patient’s one-stop source for endocrinology education featuring EmPower Magazine and its associated website, www.empoweryourhealth.org. Additional EmPower patient resources include:

  • My Diabetes Emergency Plan - Created following hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, this is a comprehensive disaster resource geared to help patients with diabetes prepare for environmental crises.
  • AACE/ACE Thyroid Awareness - For more than two decades ACE has heightened public awareness of the importance of optimal thyroid health during our nationally - recognized “Thyroid Awareness Month.”
  • Get to the Heart of It: Know Your LDL Goal-To assist patients who are concerned about the collective impact of lipid disorders and diabetes on their health, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) has created an online resource called “Get to the Heart of It: Know Your LDL Goal” that allows patients to learn about and assess their cardiovascular risk and identify a goal of LDL management.

Physician/Allied Health Professional Education

ACE Center for Transcultural Endocrinology (ACTE) - ACTE is an initiative of the American College of Endocrinology to optimize clinical endocrine care across different regions, nations, ethnicities, and cultures. ACTE will translate evidence-based white papers from one source population into actionable recommendations for domestic and international populations.

American College of Endocrinology Self-Assessment Program (ASAP) - This self-assessment program offers cognitive training for endocrinologists to maintain competence and effectiveness in delivering advanced clinical endocrine care, while assisting endocrine clinicians in the maintenance of subspecialty certification.

Alan J. Garber, MD Lectureship for the Prevention and Management of the Complications of Diabetes - This lectureship honors Alan J. Garber, MD, PhD, FACE, for his forty years of basic and human research, clinical endocrinology and academic excellence with the Baylor College of Medicine and The Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas. The fund supports a lectureship at the AACE Annual Scientific and Clinical Congress that includes the latest science and best practices in the prevention and management of the complications of diabetes.  

Jeffrey R. Garber, MD Fund - Honoring Jeffrey R. Garber, MD, FACP, FACE, whose career focus is practice innovation, patient education, and clinical endocrinology fellowship training. The fund provides awards to Fellows-in-Training whose research emphasizes cost-effective clinical endocrinology practice innovation or who have written an EmPower® Magazine article that enhances the lives of patients with endocrine disorders. EmPower® Magazine is the American College of Endocrinology (ACE) patient directed quarterly publication.

Hossein Gharib (MD) Educational Fund - Honoring Hossein Gharib, MD, MACE, for his outstanding contributions to clinical thyroidology and his service as past president of AACE and ACE and Dean of Endocrine University, this fund sponsors thyroid specific educational activities along with fora and symposia at the AACE Annual Scientific and Clinical Congress.

Guideline and Algorithm Development - Disease state diagnostic and management tools developed by endocrine experts to assist doctors and allied health professionals caring for patients with endocrine disease - available in text or computer implemented formats (i.e., the AACE Comprehensive Diabetes Management Algorithm)

White Papers and Position Papers - Bulleted scientific committee updates designed to keep practitioners informed regarding critical, rapidly changing areas of endocrinology and endocrine surgery.
