AACE and Young Physicians: A New Era

By: Ricardo Correa, MD, Es.D, FACP, CMQ, ABDA
AACE Young Physicians Subcommittee Chair

The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) is the world’s largest organization that represents clinical endocrinologists, with more than 7,500 members in the U.S. and 97 countries. Membership includes endocrinologists in all stages of their career. Leadership is very aware that within AACE, there are young physicians who have different needs compared to fellows-in-training, physicians in the middle of their career, and seasoned physicians.

In 2016, thanks to the hard work of AACE leadership and staff, the Young Physician Subcommittee (YPS) was created. The main objective of this Subcommittee is to become the voice of physicians just entering practice and to provide a platform for leadership and networking opportunities. Young physicians from around the country have been selected to become part of this Subcommittee. This young, energetic group has developed innovative ideas and provided important feedback to AACE. Overall, the goal is to learn more about the needs of young physicians and to increase participation.

An example of the Subcommittee at work is the new Young Physicians Section on the AACE webpage. The main goal is to provide the tools young physicians need during the early stages of their careers. In this section, you will find interesting articles, academic activities, networking events, career opportunities, and more. Each month, articles specifically designed for Young Physicians will be published on relevant topics such as financial management, obtaining MOC credit, work/social life balance (physician wellness) and other targeted topics.

If you are an early career physician and would like to collaborate with the group or provide ideas to improve the section, please contact me at riccorrea20@hotmail.com, follow me on Twitter @drricardocorrea, or on Facebook (Ricardo Correa Marquez). We are always looking for members willing to get involved and provide innovative activities and increase the voice of our Subcommittee. Please let your voice be heard and I guarantee that we will make a difference. Thank you in advance and I look forward to watching our presence grow.
