AACE Supports PCOS Awareness Month (H.Res. 864)

AACE sent a letter to the National Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Association endorsing H. Res. 864, a resolution recognizing the seriousness of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and expressing support for the designation of the month of September 2018 as “PCOS Awareness Month.”



AACE Urges CMS to Modify the MIPS Quality Measure Reporting Period

AACE joined the AMA and other organizations to urge the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator to consider reducing the onerous Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) documentation requirements in order to reduce administrative burden and ensure physicians have sufficient time to report after receiving performance feedback.



AACE Comments on USPSTF Draft Recommendations on Behavioral Interventions for Weight Loss

AACE, as a member of the Obesity Care Advocacy Network (OCAN), sent a letter to the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) provide comments on the recently released draft recommendations regarding “Weight Loss to Prevent Obesity-Related Morbidity and Mortality in Adults: Behavioral Interventions.”



AACE Requests Support for Medicare Physician Payment Issues Under Congressional Consideration

AACE sent a letter to House and Senate leadership requesting support for three important issues related to physician payment under the Medicare program that are in play as Congress considers legislation to reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and a package of Medicare payment extensions.



AACE Comments on USPSTF Draft Research Plan for Osteoporosis Screening

AACE, as a member of the Fracture Prevention Coalition, sent a letter to the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) commending their work on and attention to the issue of screening for osteoporosis, as well as commenting on points within the recently released Draft Recommendation Statement on screening for osteoporosis.



AACE Submits Comments on Developing APMs

AACE responded to a request for information by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) to help facilitate new approaches to alternative payment models (APMs) for the delivery of high quality, value-based care.



AACE Endorses Protecting Access to Diabetes Supplies Act (H.R. 3271 / S. 1914)

AACE sent a letter of support to Representative Diana DeGette (D-1st-CO) and Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) for introducing the Protecting Access to Diabetes Supplies Act of 2017, which addresses problems with the Medicare Competitive Bidding Program National Mail Order program by strengthening safeguards that are currently ineffective in ensuring patient access to a wide range of diabetes testing supplies.



AACE Endorses Local Coverage Determination Clarification Act (H.R. 3635)

AACE sent a letter of support to Representative Lynn Jenkins (R-2nd-KS) for introducing H.R. 3635, the Local Coverage Determination Clarification Act of 2017, which seeks to enhance the transparency and accountability in the process used by Medicare Administrative Contractors to make local coverage determinations, including providing for open public meetings and open public comment periods on draft policies in addition to several other enhancements supported by numerous medical specialty societies.



AACE Urges the House to Pass IPAB Repeal Legislation

AACE joined the AMA and other organizations to urge the House of Representatives to support passage of the Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act (H.R. 849), which would repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB).



AACE Submits Comments on HHS Draft Strategic Plan for FY 2018 – 2022

AACE submitted a comment letter to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on their draft 2018-2022 Strategic Plan in regards to diabetes and the complications of the disease, and other insulin-related metabolic and autoimmune diseases.



AACE Proposes Continued Flexibility to Ensure the Successful Implementation of MACRA

AACE joined the AMA and other medical societies to urge Congress to enact legislation that ensures continued flexibility in the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) statue used by CMS’ transitional approach to the implementation of the Quality Payment Program (QPP).

AACE joined American Diabetes Association, Endocrine Society and JDRF in sending a letter to the House and Senate Committees of jurisdiction urging that they act expeditiously to renew the federal special diabetes program.

AACE sent a thank you letter to Representative George Holding (R-2nd-NC) for his efforts to improve the transparency regarding Medicare Advantage (MA) plan prior authorization requirements by urging HHS to provide clarity on the limits used.



AACE Expresses Concerns Over Senate Block Grant Health Care Reform Proposal

AACE sent a letter to U.S. Senators urging that insurance market reforms be maintained and that principles adopted by AACE be considered as health care reform proposals are being evaluated.

AACE submitted a comment letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on the proposed changes in the Medicare physician payment policies for calendar year 2018.

AACE submitted a comment letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding their proposed rule addressing steps to reduce the burden on physicians in the 2018 performance year for the Quality Payment Program (QPP).



AACE Endorses Medical Liability Reform Legislation (H.R. 1215)

AACE sent a letter of support to Representative Steve King (R-4th-IA) for introducing the Protecting Access to Care Act (H.R. 1215), which would implement reasonable and much-needed medical liability reforms that will help reduce the growth of health care costs and preserve patients’ access to medical care.



AACE Endorses Legislation Establishing a Transparent Exceptions Process for Step Therapy (H.R. 2077)

AACE sent a letter of support to the congressional sponsors of the Restoring the Patient’s Voice Act (H.R. 2077), which provides a clear and transparent process to seek exceptions and approvals for medications subject to step therapy reviews by health insurance plans.



AACE Calls on CMS to Suspend the National Mail Order Program for Diabetes Testing Supplies

AACE sent a letter to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Price urging that immediate action be taken to suspend the Medicare Competitive Bidding National Mail Order program for diabetes testing supplies.



AACE Comments on Reducing Administrative Burdens Under the ACA and Other HHS Programs

AACE responded to an information request by the CMS Administrator on an Executive Order that seeks to minimize the economic burden of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and on efforts to reduce burdens imposed by other programs by highlighting two important issues.

AACE Commends CMS for Recognition of CGMs as DME

AACE sent a thank you letter to Administrator Verma for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) decision to recognize therapeutic continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) as durable medical equipment under the Medicare statute and requested that CMS provide coverage for the FDA-approved OmniPod.



AACE Expresses Concerns to OMB Director Regarding Comments on Diabetes

AACE, as a member of the Diabetes Advocacy Alliance, sent a letter to Director Mick Mulvaney of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) regarding public comments made about individuals with diabetes and offered to be a resource for diabetes-related issues in the future.

AACE Supports the Preventive Health Savings Act

AACE joined over 100 organizations in sending a letter of support to the congressional sponsors of the Preventive Health Savings Act, which amends the Congressional Budget Act of 1974 by addressing the current scoring process and allowing Congress to request the estimate for long-term health savings from preventable health initiatives.



AACE Calls on Congress to Reject Proposed Budget Cuts to NIH

AACE urged Congress to reject the unprecedented budget cuts on biomedical research proposed by the Administration.
