AACE Urges Agencies to Issue Regulations on Coverage for Patient Costs in Clinical Trials
AACE has co-signed a letter with The Endocrine Society and other medical organizations urging the federal government to issue regulations implementing a provision under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that requires group health plans and health insurance issuers to provide for coverage of routine patient costs associated with approved clinical trials. Federal agencies in charge of implementing the ACA recently announced that they will not be issuing regulations on this specific provision, believing the statute is clear enough. The societies have sent a letter encouraging explicit instruction or guidance by the federal agencies to ensure clarity and uniform implementation of the provision under the ACA.
