AACE to participate in 2nd World Congress on Interventional Therapies for Type 2 Diabetes
AACE will participate in the 2nd World congress on Interventional Therapies for Type 2 Diabetes, scheduled to be held in New York, March 28-30, 2011. AACE will be represented by Dr. Jeffrey Mechanick who will serve as a member of the Program Planning Committee. His expertise and experience will lend valuable input to the Congress’ scientific discussion. AACE has endorsed the meeting for the purpose of further evaluation of multiple therapies for treating type 2 diabetes, including the long-term safety and effectiveness of surgical intervention. AACE will review the published findings of the Congress for possible endorsement. The 2nd World Congress is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary forum with a stellar faculty of leaders, including Nobel laureates. The format for the Congress includes state-of-the art review lectures by leading world experts in basic science, diabetes, surgery, endocrinology, cardiology, and gastroenterology, followed by a debate aimed to critically review and assess current evidence and to solve controversies. This Congress is also unique for its involvement of policymakers, including health ministers and government agencies, and has potential for policy changes. Additionally, the Congress welcomes the submission of abstracts for poster and oral presentations. We are very pleased to announce that the top four abstracts will be chosen by the Scientific Program Committee to be presented in the plenary sessions. The goal of the Congress is to craft an agenda of research priorities and health policy initiatives and discuss how the study of gastrointestinal interventions may improve the understanding of diabetes and provide direction for future treatments of curative intent. Because of the importance of the multi-disciplinary issues that will be addressed and the relevance to our membership, the Organizers are offering a special registration rate to all of our members. As an endorsing society, all American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists’ members will receive a $100 discount on registration fees. Registration and abstract submission will be open mid-September (visit their website at www.wcidt.org for more information). If you register early, you will receive the double benefit of both the early bird discount as well as the endorsing society discount!
