2014 Elections Report
Needless to say, Congress will be considering several issues in the coming months that will have a direct impact on you and your patients. The National Diabetes Clinical Care Commission Act, AACE’s signature diabetes bill, was not passed despite strong bipartisan support and will need to be re-introduced in the 114th Congress. Additionally, the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) payment patch expires in March 2015 and has to be addressed in order to avoid the 21.2% reduction in reimbursement faced by physicians participating in the Medicare program. Both the Medicare and Medicaid programs are anticipated to be subject to additional reforms in an effort to preserve access in future years.
Now is the time to sign-up as an AACE Key Contact and get an early start establishing and building a relationship with your federally elected representatives. AACE grassroots participation in legislative advocacy is essential and becoming an AACE Key Contact is a simple, yet extremely important, step to ensuring that clinical endocrinologists and their patients have a voice on Capitol Hill. AACE Key Contacts serve as liaisons between AACE and the 435 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the 100 Members of the U.S. Senate.
Whether your Members of Congress are returning to office or have been elected for the first time, you want to be sure to congratulate them and begin the process of introducing yourself and becoming their trusted resource on healthcare issues. The AACE Key Contact Program provides resources and support for AACE members who serve as a Key Contact and are the liaison between their Members of Congress and AACE. The AACE Key Contact Program is the cornerstone of AACE advocacy activities and is not possible without your involvement.
