Yulino Castillo Núñez, MD
Dr. Castillo graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (Intec), Dominican Republic, in 1986. He completed residency of internal medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) and his endocrinology fellowship at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán (INCMNSZ), México.
Dr. Castillo is a physician scientist and director of the Endocrinology and Diabetes Section and Fellowship Coordinator of the Hospital Dr. Salvador B. Gautier in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic since 1995. During the past two decades, Dr. Castillo has served as professor of medicine and endocrinology at the UASD and Intec. He has trained over 50 endocrinologists who hold important positions in Central America and the Caribbean. Dr. Castillo is one of the most recognized clinician educators in Latin America and he has been a “father figure” of endocrinology in the Dominican Republic.
Dr. Castillo has received numerous awards for his hard work and dedication to science and education in the Dominican Republic and Central America in recognition of his valuable contributions to the development of endocrinology and diabetes. Those awards include “Distinguished Professor,” “Top National and International Representative of the Dominican Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition,” and “Prize Legacy” (“Premio Legado”) awarded by the Dominican Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition. He is recognized as one of the most influential endocrinologists in the Dominican Republic.
Dr. Castillo has been involved in clinical research and has served as the thesis director of many medicine residents and endocrinologists in his country. He has published 52 manuscripts and 18 book chapters in different areas of endocrinology and diabetes. He is a super speaker and has dictated over 500 lectures in most Latin America countries. He is the current Editor in Chief of the Latin America Association of Diabetes (ALAD) journal, Revista ALAD. Dr. Castillo is an active member of AACE and has attended numerous national scientific meetings and currently is the Secretary of the Dominican Republic AACE Chapter.
