AACE will share educational and informative metabolic materials with Medem, Inc. as in a service agreement to support Medem’s iHealthRecord service. Medem, Inc., is a communication system founded by the American Medical Association with U.S. medical societies. The agreement between AACE and Medem will provide AACE members with an innovative technology to better serve patients and support their practices. AACE members are eligible for a 33% discount when ordering the iHealthRecord system. Medem developed iHealthRecord in response to further President George W. Bush’s call for every American to have an electronic personal health record within ten years.
iHealthRecord is an Internet module and database service providing a secure personal health record web platform to patients where they can access their health records and medical history from their physician or hospital’s webpage.
The iHealth Service has recently extended its capability by incorporating "professionally sourced data from market-leading sources" to integrate into its system, according to Medem. An accurate health history and secure iHealthRecord equips patients with tools to better understand their condition and medications. iHealthRecord resources fill in the gaps of poor patient understanding, forgetfulness and inadequate medication instructions, which are the primary factors contributing to ‘inadequate medication adherence.’ According to a recent press release by Medem, available on its website www.ihealthrecord.org, "the expanded iHealth Service will reduce medication errors, responsible for thousands of deaths each year in the U.S."
Medem is equipped with an array of supports to enhance physician and patient communication. The Medem service available to physicians features a practice website, an online consultation feature, patient-physician email system, and customized health education programs with clinical support from AACE, US Medical Societies and government agencies. The registration feature gives patients the ability to fill out appropriate paperwork needed prior to an appointment, omitting the paperwork-clipboard process upon arrival. Each iHealthRecord will alert users of FDA medication warnings and recalls, while offering automated educational programs specific to the user’s condition. Medem launched the iHealth Service in 2005 and currently serves 90,000 physician practice websites.
To register for iHealthRecords go to https://www.yourpracticeonline.com/YpolBuilder/reg_yourinfo.jsp or contact Medem’s member services at 1-877-926-3336 or info@medem.com. *iHealthRecord is provided by Medem directly to physicians and their patients, AACE is only a service provider for educational resources involving endocrine materials.
