AACE is pleased to announce the third year of the AACE Advanced Endocrine Coding: Practical Applications with Certified Endocrine Coder (CEC) Exam, in partnership with Unique Healthcare Consulting, Inc. This course is designed to further your coding knowledge, enabling you to prevent billing errors and maximize the reimbursement in your practice. You will learn the complete coding and claims processing cycle, from negotiating contracts, to setting fee schedules and processing appeals. This course is designed for the experienced endocrine coder and offers a certification exam at the completion of the course. Upon passing the examination, the credentials of “CEC” may be used following the examinees name to denote specialized knowledge and skill in endocrine coding.

Course Objectives:
The AACE Advanced Endocrine Coding: Practical Applications with Certified Endocrine Coder (CEC) Exam will allow participants to:
- Describe correct usage of endocrinology-specific CPT, HCPCS II and ICD-9.
- Determine compliance issues pertinent to an endocrinology practice.
- Receive the most up-to-date coding and compliance information available to endocrinologists.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:- Determine accurate codes for diagnoses, procedures and services performed by physicians and recognized, licensed non-physician providers
- Keep current with medical compliance and reimbursement policies, such as medical necessity and correct coding issues
- Perform various auditing duties to maintain compliance with payor reimbursement policies and governmental regulations as well as Medicare/CMS guidelines
- Update the clinic’s fee schedule based on Relative Value Unit (RVU) updates that come out annually and based on additions and deletions to codes for procedures, services and supplies
- Monitor progress resulting from periodic internal audits
- Provide office staff with up-to-date coding information from reliable, accurate sources, such as specific payors, the AMA, AHA’s Coding Clinic and CMS
- Implement new coding guidelines in a timely manner
- Update encounter forms/superbills on an annual basis with respect to diagnostic, procedural and supply code changes
- Prepare and/or submit completed CMS-1500 forms for services and procedures performed by the practice’s physicians and non-physician providers, such as nurse practitioners, physician assistants and Registered Diabetic Educators
- Review explanation of benefits from payors, evaluating denied claims and filing appeals for denied claims
- Becoming part of a national listing of AACE-CECs.
