ACE Partnership for Endocrine Health
A FUNDING OPPORTUNITY FOR BETTER LIVING THROUGH ENDOCRINE CARE

The mission of the American College of Endocrinology's (ACE) Partnership for Endocrine Health is to preserve, advance and expand the practice of endocrinology for the betterment of health and living.

The goals of the Partnership are to:

  • Raise the level of public awareness of endocrine diseases and encourage early diagnosis and disease meanagement
  • Increase the number of endocrinologists entering practice
  • Foster the highest level of training and experience for endocrinologists through fellowship training programs and continuing medical education
  • Advance endocrine research for new drug therapies and medical devices for treating endocrine diseases

BECOMING A PARTNER THROUGH ANNUAL CONTRIBUTIONS

In order to preserve, advance and expand the practice of endocrinology for the betterment of health and living, ACE has created the Partnership for Endocrine Health to make a difference. You can help by becoming a partner and contributing to the future of endocrine health for you and your loved ones.

INTRODUCTION

Most Americans will be affected by a life-shortening endocrine disease – diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, cholesterol disorders, osteoporosis, or thyroid disease. These are disorders that can be effectively treated or often cured or prevented. The management of these conditions is part of the special training and expertise of endocrinologists.

INVESTING IN ENDOCRINE EDUCATION
Medical Students, Residents in Training,
Scholarships for Endocrine Fellows

In order to fulfill their commitment to promote better living through excellent endocrine care, endocrinologists must go through many years of extensive training. The partnership is committed to providing only the best in endocrine education to all levels of the profession, from brand-new medical students to seasoned endocrinologists.

As patient needs for endocrinologists increase due to an aging population and a higher prevalence of endocrine diseases such as diabetes, the partnership wants to ensure that these needs are met by an adequate supply of endocrinologists.

  • Scholarship Programs for Fellows-in-Training:
With the endocrine workforce shortages being estimated at nearly 20% by the year 2020, the partnership supports scholarships for academic institutions to provide endocrinology training for internists.

  • Special Education for First Year Residents:
The partnership has developed training programs and awareness initiatives on endocrine-related topics for first year residents in internal medicine.

  • Endocrine Awareness for Medical Students:
This special educational program is structured to introduce third and fourth year medical students to the practice of endocrinology and to encourage their consideration of endocrinology as a career choice.

Endocrine University®
Supporting the Next Generation
of Clinical Endocrinologists

A unique educational experience, which is typically not offered during fellowship, is made possible through the American College of Endocrinology (ACE). Endocrine University® is designed for endocrine fellows-in-training to achieve instruction and certification in procedure-based endocrinology and practice-based medicine by providing grants to endocrine training programs. Final-year fellows have the opportunity to attend this valuable week-long program for enhancing their skills for the benefit of the patients they will serve in the future.

Continuing Medical Education
Quality Care for All

Accreditation courses, clinical symposia, the AACE Annual Meeting and Clinical Congress, the American College of Endocrinology (ACE) Self-Assessment Program in Endocrinology & Metabolism (ASAP), and the AACE Board Review Course are some of the outstanding ACE continuing educational programs that allow endocrinologists to obtain American Medical Association (AMA) Category 1 CME credit hours. These programs are designed to equip participants with the most recent advances in the diagnosis and management of common endocrine disorders.

CONSENSUS CONFERENCES
Establishing Cutting Edge Care

ACE consensus conferences bring together international thought leaders in the diagnosis and management of endocrine disorders to develop appropriate guidelines, treatments, and therapies for various endocrine diseases. The panel of endocrine experts analyzes and evaluates data to produce consensus statements based, in part, on the conference proceedings. The partnership will continue to support these important forums that facilitate a higher level of discussion on significant and timely endocrine topics, and produce evidence-based statements and guidelines that will have a major impact on the world of medicine.

Cooperation by multi-disciplinary subspecialties is critical to ensure the success of educational awareness campaigns. The partnership supports initiatives such as joint consensus conferences and public health campaigns to represent a unified voice from the medical community regarding all facets of promoting endocrine health through prevention and healthy living.

Disease Awareness and Prevention

Power of Prevention

Leading healthy lifestyles through physical activity, good nutrition, and maintaining consistent compliance with directives issued by physicians and their team of healthcare professionals are integral components of prevention. The partnership provides funds for the ACE Power of Prevention (POP) program to promote the importance of preventing endocrine disease through lifestyle modifications for children and adults. These activities include public disease awareness initiatives and programs specifically designed for children.

POP's preventive health and public service initiatives foster improved health care and healthy lifestyles for future generations. Physicians, patients, individuals, and philanthropic organizations can help sustain and enhance the POP program through tax-deductible contributions to the Partnership for Endocrine Health.

High Risk Groups

Certain populations, specifically ethnic minorities and underserved communities, are predisposed to endocrine or metabolic disease; a fact that is well documented, particularly with the incidents of diabetes among the African American, Hispanic, Native American and Asian populations. The partnership supports educational awareness campaigns sponsored by ACE, in concert with AACE, to raise public awareness and promote prevention of endocrine diseases among these populations.
