AACE recommends that you take this opportunity to update your computer system and encounter forms to insure that you are billing appropriately in 2008. Appendix B of the 2008 CPT book provides a summary of additions, deletions, and revisions that may effect your practice.




Important Reminder! 2008 ICD-9 Codes Effective October 1st

There are many ICD-9 changes for 2008 that affect endocrinology and could have an impact on coding in your office. There is no grace period for these changes so any invalid code submitted on or after October 1, 2007 will be denied. G0108-G0109 Medicare Coverage Changes
Implementation Date:  July 2, 2007

The Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT) codes, G0108-G0109, include instructions in self-monitoring of blood glucose; education about diet and exercise; an insulin treatment plan developed specifically for the patient who is insulin-dependent; and motivation for patients to use the skills for self-management. Medicare Part B will cover ten hours of initial training for a beneficiary who has been diagnosed with diabetes.  Beneficiaries are eligible to receive two hours of follow-up training each calendar year following the year in which they were certified as requiring initial training.  For more information, please visit http://www.aace.com/advocacy/pdf/MedicareCoverageChanges2007.pdf




2008 Coding Manual

The content of the Coding webpage is provided under the direction of the AACE Socioeconomics & Member Advocacy Committee. This committee is also responsible for the development and support of new endocrine related CPT, ICD-9, and HCPCS codes on behalf of AACE, as well as the development of the AACE Endocrine Coding Manual.

Coding & Reimbursement Inquiry Form

For Coding related issues, coding questions and hassle factor inquiries, please click the following Coding and Reimbursement Inquiry Form to submit your request. You will need to fax all supporting documentation, to the AACE Office, regarding your claim. Please note: all patient information submitted to the AACE office must be in compliance with HIPAA regulations, therefore it is important to eliminate the patients name, social security number and/or other identifying information prior to submitting claims to the office for review. Due to the abundance of these requests, responses can take up to 7 to 10 business days, following the initial receipt of this request.
